The sitter holds a book in his right hand titled ''Haller'', presumably Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777), a Swiss anatomist, physiologist, naturalist, encyclopedist, bibliographer and poet.There is craquelure throughout, most notably to the sitter''s right breast. HIstorically re-lined.
