Exquisite Edwardian Silver Wirework Sugar Basket by William Comyns, Lonodn 1907

1900 - 1920
Description

This superb Edwardian silver sugar basket was made by the celebrated William Comyns and is dated London 1907. The vase-shaped silver body with a wirework middle section interspersed with cast foliage and flowers. The sides with an articulated pierced twist handle and the rim with a wavy gadroon border.

Raised on a circular pedestal foot. Fitted with the original Bristol blue glass liner.

Hallmarks:

WC for William Comyns.

Date letter "m" for 1907.

London Assay mark.

Lion Passant.

Condition:

Very good condition.

No losses to the pierced decorations.

Wirework in very good condition.

Foot and handle in excellent condition.

Glass in very good condition.

Dimensions:

Height up to handle: 11.5cm / 4.4 inches.

Rim diameter: 7cm / 3 inches.

Foot diameter: 5cm / 2 inches.
