Burmese repousse silver refers to traditional metalwork crafted in Myanmar, characterised by high-relief decorative scenes hammered from the reverse side of the vessel, often depicting traditional folklore or mythological narratives.

Silversmiths formed these bowls by shaping silver sheets into vessel forms before executing the repousse technique from the interior and chasing fine details onto the exterior surface, using pitch filling to support the metal shape during carving.

Authentic 19th-century examples typically display three-dimensional relief carving, high silver purity without standard European hallmarks, and continuous narrative friezes framed by floral or foliate borders.

Display the bowl as a standalone accent on a sideboard, console table, or shelf, allowing its detailed metallic surface to contrast against natural timber, stone, or painted backgrounds.

Clean the surface gently with a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid excessive rubbing inside deep relief areas to preserve the natural oxidised depth.
