Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sarcophagus tea caddy is a wooden storage box featuring tapered sides and a stepped lid, mimicking classical ancient sarcophagi. This architectural form became highly popular in England during the early 19th century Regency period.

Regency tea caddies were typically constructed from high-grade timbers such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, often finished with brass escutcheons, turned wood ring handles, and internal foil linings to protect stored tea.

Authentic Regency pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass or wooden side handles, stepped or fluted lids, and original patina showing subtle wear around keyholes and base feet.

An antique tea caddy can be styled as a focal accent piece on a sideboard, bookshelf, or desk. It functions effectively both as decorative desktop storage and as a standalone accent object.

Maintain a rosewood tea caddy by dusting it regularly with a clean microfiber cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish periodically. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas with fluctuating humidity.
