Good mid C19th burr and pollard oak centre table; James Winter & Sons, London; striking timber with a glorious colour. The burr oak rectangular top with rounded corners above the well figured frieze incorporating a full length concealed drawer centred with a large finely carved roundel of a heraldic lion. Raised on tapering end supports united by a high arch stretcher on plinth bases raised on compressed bun feet with concealed original lignum vitae castors. The top drawer stamped ''James Winter & Sons 151 153 155 Wardour St Soho London''. Finished on the back so can be used freestanding.
The renowned cabinet makers James Winter & Sons were based in Soho London between 1823 to 1870 and produced significant pieces of furniture. James Winter founded his company in 1823 as a cabinet maker, undertaker, dealer, appraiser and retailed from his Soho premises.
