Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mule chest is a traditional wooden storage vessel featuring a hinged top lid over a deep compartment, combined with one or more drawers set into the base. Originating in the late 17th century, it served as a transitional furniture form between a standard coffer and a chest of drawers.

Georgian mule chests were typically constructed from solid native hard woods, predominantly English oak, elm, or pine. Secondary timbers such as pine or poplar were often used for drawer linings, complemented by hand-forged iron hinges and cast brass handles or escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century pieces demonstrate hand-planed surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, and pegged mortise and tenon framing. Signs of historical timber shrinkage around the panels and natural oxidisation on original iron or brass fittings also indicate age.

An oak mule chest can be positioned at the foot of a bed, within an entryway, or as a focal point in a living room. Contrast the rich, dark wood tone by pairing it with light neutral textiles, contemporary artwork, or simple ceramic decorative objects.

Dust the wood regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice per year along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent the solid timber from warping or splitting.
