Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Patented in the late 19th century by William S. Wooton, these desks are elaborate Victorian writing cabinets featuring hinged doors and cylinder fronts containing complex internal compartments, drawers, and letter pigeonholes designed for business organisation.

19th-century cabinet desks were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and mahogany, frequently overlaid with burr walnut veneers and fitted with solid brass hinges, castors, and locking mechanisms.

Authentic examples often feature a stamped metal patent plaque near the top gallery, cast brass hardware, carved pediments, panelled door fronts, and meticulous internal joinery with numerous fitted pigeonholes.

A Victorian cabinet desk serves as a focal point in a modern home office or library setting, paired with simple contemporary lighting and neutral walls to highlight the natural timber grain.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the surface finish.
