Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Revival armchairs of the 19th century frequently draw inspiration from Louis XVI designs, characterised by rectilinear frames, fluted turned legs, channelled borders, and classical foliage carvings.

These armchairs are typically constructed from carved hardwood frames coated in gesso and decorated with genuine gold leaf gilding, complemented by hand-woven tapestry or needlepoint upholstery and brass castors.

Authenticity is identified by examining the age-appropriate wear and oxidisation of the gold leaf, hand-carved joinery underneath the gesso, period-correct brass castors, and maker stamps or inventory labels on the seat rail.

A giltwood armchair functions as a statement accent piece when paired with clean-lined contemporary sofas, placed in a grand hallway, or styled alongside modern artwork to create visual balance.

Clean giltwood by dusting lightly with a dry, soft-bristle brush, avoiding water or liquid cleaners that damage water-gilding. Keep tapestry upholstery out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading and vacuum gently with a soft attachment.
