This is a rather beautiful set of six Jugendstil hock glasses, designed by Julius Camillo de Maess as form number 1341 for Josephinenhütte of Bavaria, Germany, and dating from about 1900. The glasses were gilded by Hanney''s atelier. See Stefania Zelasko''s, ''Josephine Glassworks Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modern, 1900-50'', Passau, 2009, p. 86 for a reference to these glasses.
We have two sets of six of these glasses at time of posting them for sale if you want or need a larger set.
The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some 120+ years of use.
The glasses have cup-shaped bowls measuring 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter at the rims. The glasses are blown in green glass and the bowls, stems and feet are gilded with flora. The bowls sit on long, thin, inverted baluster stems that lead to conical feet which measure 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 19.5 cm. (7.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. The gilding is slightly rubbed in places.
Thinly blown lead crystal glass, each weighing in at 125 g. ( ~ 4 1/2 oz.). Each glass holds 140 ml., approximately one fifth of a bottle of wine.
