Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A dresser base is a wide, low storage cabinet traditionally situated in dining rooms or kitchens. Evolving from traditional Welsh dressers without the upper shelving rack, these pieces feature drawers over cupboards designed for storing tableware, linens, and serving items.

Traditional oak sideboards feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, tongue-and-groove back panelling, and solid oak construction showing distinctive quarter-sawn medullary rays. Components were often secured using wood pegs and mortise and tenon joinery rather than modern adhesives.

Authentic pieces display period-correct joinery, natural age-related patination, and hand-carved or turned details. Look for original ironmongery or wooden knobs, solid drawer linings made from secondary timbers like pine, and evidence of hand-tooling on non-visible surfaces.

Position the piece against a neutral or rich deep-toned wall to highlight the timber grain. Contrast the dark oak by displaying minimalist contemporary ceramics, modern lighting, or architectural greenery on the upper surface.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and uneven fading.
