Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, symbolic imagery was widely incorporated into jewellery, with the horseshoe representing good luck, protection, and a passion for equestrian pursuits. These motifs were frequently gifted to loved ones as tokens of good fortune and affection.

Victorian lockets were predominantly fabricated from sterling silver, featuring hand-engraved patterns, engine turning, or die-struck relief work. Internal frames and glass or mica covers were included to protect enclosed portraits or locks of hair.

Authentic British silver lockets from this period feature official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark, and a date letter. Construction details such as hand-cut hinges and hand-engraved surface work also distinguish period pieces from modern reproductions.

An antique silver locket can be suspended from a modern silver curb or belcher chain to serve as a focal statement piece. It pairs effectively with tailored daywear or layered alongside minimalist modern necklaces for a textured look.

Clean the silver exterior gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish. Avoid submerging the locket in liquid cleaners, as moisture can enter the internal photo compartments and cause deterioration.
