A wonderful example of Victorian Aesthetic Movement design, this two-tier bamboo cabinet features a rich combination of natural textures and Far Eastern-inspired decoration. The frame is crafted from golden-hued bamboo, its joints wrapped in fine reed, embodying the 19th-century fascination with exotic materials and artisanal craftsmanship.
This item is offered in unrestored condition so please use the pictures to help form the description. There are many marks of age and this would need woodworking and polishing to restore it to the original condition from over a century ago.
The upper section is topped with an elegant arched crest, inset with a decorative lacquer panel and a small oval mirror, flanked by two glazed cupboard doors. Below, an open shelf with a lacquered back leads to the lower cabinet, which includes two drawers and double doors adorned with hand-painted Japanned panels, showcasing delicate floral and oriental motifs.
Raised on splayed legs and rich in period character, this cabinet is both functional and decorative — ideal as a hallway piece, drinks cabinet, or statement storage in any eclectic or antique-inspired interior.
