Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, copper log bins and hearth buckets were essential domestic items used to hold firewood, coal, and kindling near the hearth. Copper was favoured for its durability, resistance to heat, and attractive reddish warm tone, making these vessels both functional and decorative features in Victorian homes.

Authentic period log bins were constructed from sheet copper, often hand-hammered or raised into shape with hand-riveted or dovetailed seams. They frequently feature cast brass or iron fittings, rolled rims for structural strength, and occasional tin linings to protect the interior metal surface.

Look for signs of hand craftspersonship, such as irregular hammer marks, hand-shaped copper rivets, and cast brass ring handles attached with heavy brass plates. Period pieces also exhibit authentic surface oxidisation, soft age-related wear, and brazed or dovetailed joining seams along the body and base.

Position the copper bin alongside a stove or open fireplace to house birch logs, or repurpose it as a statement indoor planter for large leafy houseplants. Its warm metallic tones also suit use as a hallway container for walking sticks, umbrellas, or rolled textiles.

To maintain historical value, avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive scouring pads that remove the natural aged patina. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax to preserve the metallic surface and prevent excessive tarnishing.
