In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the case is lined with a lovely red velvet and has elasticated straps for securing the hat.
The case is in good condition and has a lovely aged patina with just the right amount of wear to show that it has been used but well cared for. There are of course some minor scuffs and marks and some loose stitching but nothing detrimental and it is certainly a usable piece. The interior is clean and tidy. We do not have a key and the leather strap that would have gone all the way around the outside is not present but the side straps and buckles fasten the top securely. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use or display.
