Mid Century 1.14 Old Cut Diamond & 0.68 Carat Ruby Five Stone Ring, Circa 1955

1940 - 1960
Description

Such a delightful ring. The line of five gemstones are, unusually for a five stone ring, all of the same dimensions, meaning this will be a super easy ring to stack. The trio of impressively white old mine cut diamonds (graded E to F colour) are inter-spaced by a pair of glowing blood-red rubies. Each gem is secured in a 18k white gold coronet collet, leading to a slim and tapering 18k white gold shank.

Accompanied by an independent jewellery report from IGR.

Cut:? Old mine cut diamonds and round cut rubies.

Colour:? The diamonds range from E to F.

Clarity:? The diamonds are SI1 to SI2 (all eye-clean). The rubies are eye-clean.

Carat:? Total approximate diamond weight of 1.14 carat, with approximately 0.68 carat of rubies.

Circa:? 1955.

Size:? P (UK) or 7 1/2 (US). Free sizing available.

Measurements:? From the edge of one outer diamond to the other is 21.4mm. The ring is 5.5mm at the widest point and sits 4.75mm from the finger.

Weight:? 4.50 grams.

Metal:? Stamped 18CT in side the band, indicating 18k white gold, and tested with a Niton DXL Precious Metal Analyzer to confirm.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A five stone ring features a row of five gemstones set horizontally across the band. Popularised during the Victorian era and remaining prominent through the 20th century, this design traditionally symbolises five stages of a relationship or key personal milestones.

Mid-century rings frequently utilised precious metals such as platinum and white gold to highlight white diamonds, alongside yellow gold mountings. Settings typically featured brilliant or old cut diamonds paired with natural coloured gemstones secured in claw settings.

Authentic mid-century jewellery can be identified by period hallmark stamps, hand-finished claw settings, and specific gemstone cuts such as old European or transitional cuts. The underframe architecture and metal composition also reflect mid-20th-century workshop techniques.

A vintage five stone ring can be worn independently as a focal dress ring or styled alongside a simple band. Its linear arrangement allows it to sit comfortably against adjacent rings in a modern jewellery stack.

Clean the setting using warm water, mild liquid soap, and a soft-bristled brush to clear accumulated debris. Store the piece separately from other jewellery to avoid surface scratches, and inspect the metal claws periodically to ensure stones remain secure.
