Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wall brackets were popular interior features in the 19th century, designed to display porcelain, mantle clocks, or classical busts elevated on walls. Wealthier households commissioned hand-carved, gilded timber brackets incorporating architectural and natural motifs like eagles, acanthus leaves, and fruit.

These pieces were typically carved from hardwoods such as pine, oak, or lime. The carved surface was coated with gesso and bole before thin sheets of gold leaf were applied using water gilding techniques, which were then burnished.

Authentic period examples display hand-carving marks on the reverse timber and natural wear to the gilding, often exposing the reddish clay bole or white gesso beneath. The weight of the timber and traditional joinery or hand-cut hanging brackets also indicate period construction.

A carved giltwood bracket can be mounted on a narrow wall or alcove to support small decorative objects such as a marble bust, vintage mantle clock, or ceramic vase. Its gilded texture adds visual interest when placed against muted or contemporary paint shades.

Giltwood surfaces should be dusted gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to avoid flaking delicate gold leaf. Water or liquid cleaners must be avoided, as moisture can dissolve underlying gesso glue layers and cause permanent loss of gilding.
