In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the box is fitted with a leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a brass topped glass inkwell and a pen tray next to a small stamp slope.
The key to the outer lock is missing but we do have a working key that locks the inside slope.
The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The leather writing surface is in good order and the box is very usable. There are some minor old knocks and marks around the outside of the box and some minor shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.
