Stunning Davenport Porcelain Fancy Birds Tea and Coffee Cup & Saucer Trio Pattern 916 C.1830

19th century
Description

A beautifully fun and frivolous early 19th century tea and coffee "trio" from the Davenport manufactory with brightly painted Sevres style fancy birds stood in the gilded branches of stylised trees and a similarly coloured butterfly to the centre of each. Fluted walls and the rims are shaped with moulded detail and picked out with a gilt dentil pattern broken with floral garlands. The outside of the cups has a simple gilt frieze and the moulded broken loop handles are also picked out in gilt. The cups have a rare printed mark and the saucer with the ribbon and anchor mark. All pieces also marked with the pattern number 916 in gilt. c.1830-1835.

The teacup measures 9.8cm (4 1/4") rim to rim and 5.5cm (2 3/16") high to the rim. The coffee cup measures 9.2cm (3 5/8") wide and 6.4cm (2 1/2") high and the saucer measures 15.6cm (6 1/8") wide.

In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration. There is a small firing fault to the each cup handle. Very minor handling wear, just very slight rubbing to the decoration over the fluted ridges on the saucer.
