Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasised honest craftsmanship, simple structural forms, and hand-finished details. Cabinets from this era frequently feature architectural cornices, stylized botanical or geometric wood inlays, and custom metalwork handles.

Solid oak, mahogany, and walnut were the primary timbers used, often highlighted with marquetry inlays of boxwood, fruitwood, or mother-of-pearl. Glazed panels were fitted with hand-cut glass panes and supported by bespoke brass or iron hardware.

Look for distinctive construction methods such as exposed mortise and tenon joints, hand-dovetailed drawers, and stamped metal fittings or lock mechanisms. Specific makers like Shapland and Petter frequently stamped lock plates with registered numbers or firm initials.

Place the cabinet against a neutral or rich wall backdrop to let the wood grain and inlay work stand out. Use the glazed upper section to display curated ceramics or books, balancing the antique timber with contemporary textures.

Dust the exterior regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Clean the glass panels using a specialist glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the wood.
