Georgian Rogers Blue & White ‘Athens’ Foot Bath C1830

18th century
Description

This grand and fine example of ROGERS BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFER WARE dates from circa 1830.

This FOOT BATH, of bold, confident design, was made by JOHN ROGERS & SON (1815-1842) of DALE HALL, LONGPORT, STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERIES.

The base bears their impressed name and the name of the pattern ‘ATHENS’. Set within a border of flowers and scrolls, the crisp, clear transfer print shows Classical Ruins in a pastoral scene. The FOOT BATH has a generous, bulbous belly, shaped rim and strong, ornate handles.

There is obvious damage. There are old chips to the edge, star cracks to the base and a horizontal crack to the side. The handles are undamaged and the whole is in a stable condition and can be handled confidently. There is no restoration.

If the Foot Bath is to be used for holding flowers or plants I would recommend a liner is used.

A beautiful piece which displays magnificently. In true Country House condition.

Height: 8 inches (20 cm)

Width: 19 inches (46 cm)

Depth: 12.5 inches (32 cm)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
