A fine example of a late 17thc bronze mortar, from a group that is called ''Suffolk X'' mortars, possibly from a foundry in Bury St. Edmunds....these mortars can have a distinctive brassy look to the bronze and use the acorn, scroll and heart and flower head with foliage as this one does....as well as other motifs. The mortar is in good ''used'' condition for its great age and has a mellow brassy colour...certainly one for the collectors...!
English - Suffolk C1660-90.
