Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall chairs were unupholstered wooden seats designed for entryways and vestibules in 19th-century homes. They were intended for callers waiting to be received by the master of the house and were made without fabric upholstery so street clothes would not soil fine textiles.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods like mahogany, oak, or walnut. Construction features solid timber seats, mortise and tenon joinery, elaborate back carving with motifs or armorial crests, and turned or cabriole front legs.

Authentic pieces show hand-carved back details, original solid timber seat planks with natural contraction, hand-turned front legs, and cast iron or timber corner bracing underneath. The underside often reveals hand-sawn wood marks and historic wax or varnish build-up.

Place a pair symmetrically on either side of a console table in a hallway or foyer to create a structured focal point. Alternatively, position a single chair in a bedroom corner, dressing space, or landing area as a decorative architectural accent.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth along the carved detailing. Preserve the timber finish by applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain, and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
