Vintage French Monogrammed Metis Linen Dowry Sheet

1900 - 1920
Description

A vintage French monogrammed metis dowry sheet with drawn threadwork borders, early 20th Century, embroidered in raised stitchs with the initials C.C., with a thread-work bottom and sides on the top return.

In excellent, clean condition.

205cm wide and 340cm long, giving a very wide turn-back at the top end. A heavyweight and tactile sheet tht would also be suitable for use as a curtain or throw.

Metis is the traditional fabric used for French sheeting. It's a combination of linen and cotton, one being used for warp and the other the weft, making a very strong and durable fabric.
