Description

Spectacular 18th.c. oak coffer with highly decorative carved front dated 1732. Sturdy construction from six inch-thick solid oak boards. Flat (rather than panelled) lid strong enough to use as a hall seat with storage. Superb decorative front with carved boards and mouldings applied to the front to create the impression of a panelled chest. Guilloche carved frieze over a central design featuring scrolls and a heart motif and dated Anno 1732. Raised on long stiles with a beautifully shaped and carved apron across the front below the floor of the chest. Shaped detail to form the feet at the sides. Later hinges and with applied blocks to the rear feet. Generally very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
