A good example of a small antique match holder with a solid silver rim. The holder itself is ceramic with a rough finish around the top to enable striking and the base is decorated like a weaved basket.
The silver rim is clearly hallmarked for C.D.Saunders & JFM Shepherd, Chester, 1895. It is stamped on the base with a maker''s mark for Taylor Tunnicliffe & Co.
It is in good condition for its age. There are some small dents and surface marks on the silver rim and general signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and no damages to the ceramic body. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
