Silver was of course extremely precious in Georgian England and therefore it was common place for families of standing to want to show off what they owned.They come in a few different forms, but are relatively distinctintive from a normal side table due to the fact they generally are finished on all four sides for central standing and nearly always have some kind of gallery, or raised rim, to the top with the idea that this will stop the objects stored on it from easily slipping off.This is a particularly nice example of a Chippendale Period Silver Table as it boasts exceptional rich mahogany timbers, which are highly figured and retain a great colour and surface. The carving is also quite superb, it has real depth to it and is very detailed and crisp. The table is also a little smaller than normally found which is nice.
