£5,350    $7,203    €6,297
An Extremely Fine Quality 18th Century, Chippendale Period, Georgian Mahogany Rectangular Silver Table, Or Centre Table, Having Exceptionally Well Figured Top, With Original Thumb Moulded Gallery To Edge, Over Well Carved Pierced Fretwork Frieze With Elegant Pierced Corner Brackets, Raised On Elegant Square Chamfered Legs Boasting Superbly Carved Blind Fretwork Decoration.

he term ''Silver Table'' is used because tables of this, or similar form and design, were made as central standing tables through the 18th century and beyond to be used in the dining room, or sometimes the drawing room, to house and display the usually extravagant silver ware and cutlery ready for use in dining and tea services. Silver was of course extremely precious in Georgian England and therefore it was common place for families of standing to want to show off what they owned.

They come in a few different forms, but are relatively distinctintive from a normal side table due to the fact they generally are finished on all four sides for central standing and nearly always have some kind of gallery, or raised rim, to the top with the idea that this will stop the objects stored on it from easily slipping off.

This is a particularly nice example of a Chippendale Period Silver Table as it boasts exceptional rich mahogany timbers, which are highly figured and retain a great colour and surface. The carving is also quite superb, it has real depth to it and is very detailed and crisp. The table is also a little smaller than normally found which is nice. It is also in exceptionally good condition still, unusually with very few historic breaks and repairs, although as one would expect there has of course been a few minor ones.

The table has simply been naturally waxed in the traditional manner by our skilled restorers before being offered for sale and is ready to place immediately into the home.
