Stylish English Shagreen Trinket Box C.1920

Description

A beautiful box in beautiful condition, these Shagreen examples are often in poor condition with surface loss, this one is superb.

Shagreen is made from Stingray or Shark skin first used in the eighteenth century, very popular in the early twentieth century and very sought-after in 2011. This one is a little more unusual in colour than the usual green, this is a faded red / pink colour.

The lid fits perfectly with the gilded hinge in excellent working order, the box's frame is revealled as having been made from solid Mahogany.

Perfect for a lady or gentleman as a small jewelry box, cufflink box or playing card box. Excellent condition, measuring 4" x 3 1/2" x 1 3/4" tall.
