This striking 19th Century slipper chair has just come into stock, after it was offered to us by the representatives of a Surrey estate. This highly decorative chair, that dates the 1860s, was chosen, firstly, because of its extenuated shape and also that it retains much of its original decoration. As you can see the buttoned upholstery has been replaced, but the ebonised and parcel gilt frame has wisely been left and not embellished, leaving an appealing surface patina. The porcelain castors appear to be original and are in good useable condition. The upholstery is firm and the chair, apart from some braid needing to be replaced can also be used in its present state if so desired. If you are looking to recover this attractive chair, I would be surprised, once the top cover has been removed, if the upholstery beneath could not be re-used, with only minimal dressing.
An eye-catching over-sized antique slipper chair
Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.
We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.
