This superb Swiss Black Forest hand-carved limewood figure portrays a young man from the medieval period dressed in a cloaked tunic and open-toed boots playing a set of traditional Swiss bagpipes called Schweizer Sackpfeife. This handmade wind instrument, similar to our Scottish variety, was commonly played from the medieval period to the early 18th century.This finely carved figure is made from a single piece of dense lime wood.
