Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The kidney-shaped table, known in French as a table a rognon, originated during the 18th century during the Louis XV period. Designed for versatility, its concave front allowed a person to sit closer to the surface for reading, writing, or needlework.

These tables are commonly constructed from hard woods such as mahogany, kingwood, or rosewood, often finished with targeted marquetry or parquetry. They frequently feature cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts and brass gallery rims around the tabletop.

Look for hand-chiseled gilt-bronze mounts with naturalistic foliage motifs, slender cabriole legs, and hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings. Original pieces often display gentle wear on the wooden feet and an authentic patina on the metalwork.

Place the piece in an entry hall, alcove, or alongside upholstered seating to create a focal point. Combining polished mahogany and gilt accents with modern neutral walls provides a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood finish. Gilt-bronze mounts should be kept dry and cleaned using a soft brush to avoid stripping the original gilded surface.
