Description

Antique Royal Dux Porcelain Figurine, Wool Spinner Girl, 19th Century, No. 466

A rare and antique porcelain figurine of a wool spinner girl, created by the Royal Dux company in the 19th century. This exquisite piece depicts a young girl spinning wool, holding a bundle in her hands. The figurine belongs to the early series of Royal Dux, as indicated by the engraved number 466, a hallmark of exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Unlike later mass-produced works, these early Royal Dux figurines were meticulously sculpted, with remarkable precision in the face, clothing, and even the fingernails. The figurine is beautifully crafted, with an exquisitely detailed face and jewellery, representing the outstanding artistry of Royal Dux sculptors from the 19th century.

The figurine bears the distinctive pink triangular Royal Dux mark, used during this period to signify authenticity.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Royal Dux figurines, produced in Bohemia from the mid-19th century onwards, are renowned for their Art Nouveau aesthetics, soft matte glazes, and naturalistic figures depicting allegorical themes, romanticised rural life, or Classical maidens.

These pieces were crafted using fine biscuit porcelain, cast in precise moulds, and hand-finished with soft earth-toned glazes, often featuring signature matte terracotta, green, and ivory hues.

Authentic pieces typically feature an applied pink porcelain triangle mark on the base, often stamped with Royal Dux Bohemia around an acorn motif, accompanied by impressed mould or model numbers.

Position the sculpture on a dark wood sideboard, within a glass display cabinet, or on a mantelpiece alongside vintage books and brass accents to create a refined focal point.

Dust the figure gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or soft brush, avoiding water or abrasive cleansers that may damage delicate hand-applied paint or unglazed biscuit surfaces.
