Description

This is an antique country house smoker's bow. An English, elm captain's chair or elbow seat, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870.

Traditional country house appeal, in the classic bow form

Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order

Select elm stocks present wonderful grain interest throughout

Excellent colour with deep caramel hues to the delightful frame

The upper rail crowned with a prominent bowed back rest

Baluster turned spindles rise obliquely, supporting the striking horseshoe armrest

Each arm terminates in out-turned scrolled hand grips

Wide saddle squab deeply sculpted with defined leg scallops

Standing upon a quartet of baluster legs united by a 'H' stretcher

This is a superb antique country house smoker's bow, with appealing colour and fine English craftsmanship. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
