Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A parchemin panel, closely related to linenfold carving, is a decorative timber panel carved to resemble rolled parchment or folded cloth. Popularised during the medieval era and revived throughout the 19th century, these panels were used in wall panelling, doors, and wainscoting.

Carved parchemin panels were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods, with oak being the primary timber utilised across Britain and Northern Europe. Craftspeople carved the raised relief details by hand using chisels and gouges.

Authentic 19th-century oak panels display natural age-related oxidisation, subtle gouge marks in recessed carved areas, and slight contraction across the wood grain. The reverse side often exhibits hand-sawn or hand-planed tool marks rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

A carved oak panel can be wall-mounted as a piece of architectural art or incorporated into bespoke joinery, such as a kitchen island or chimney breast. Positioned against light neutral walls, the dark timber provides strong visual contrast and tactile depth.

Maintain the oak surface by regularly dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent movement or splitting.
