Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, library cupboards were commissioned for private studies and manor house libraries to store books, folios, and administrative documents. Flame mahogany veneer became highly favoured during the Regency and Victorian eras for its dramatic, feather-like grain patterns created by slicing the crotch section of the mahogany tree.

These cabinets were typically constructed with a solid pine or oak carcase covered in thick flame mahogany veneers. Doors were assembled using mortise and tenon joinery, while interior shelving and backboards often utilised secondary native softwoods or hardwoods.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary woods on the cabinet back, and original brass lock mechanisms. The timber displays natural patination and slight shrinkage variations around joints that develop over decades of age.

Positioning a mahogany cupboard against neutral or deeply painted walls creates a strong focal point in a dining room, hallway, or home office. The warm timber tones balance modern minimalist furniture, glass elements, and contemporary artwork.

Maintain mahogany by applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and preserve the patina. Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the veneer from drying out or fading.
