With rounded base, flat top and all-over scroll foliate, this is a handsome silver novelty vesta case by Sampson and Mordan & Co. One side presents a strike panel, the other comes with a sprung lid. To release the lid, one has to depress the middle by pressing on the side panels. Once opened, the lid reveals a gilded interior.
The vesta case presents S & M Co, the Lion Passant, the London assay mark, and date letter ''F'' for 1881.
