Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Burmese lacquerware, known locally as Yun, has a history spanning several centuries. During the early 20th century, artisan workshops in regions such as Bagan produced decorated tables for both local patronage and the export market, adapting traditional incised lacquer techniques to Western-style furniture shapes.

These tables were constructed using a teak or soft wood framework, often combined with woven bamboo or horsehair panels for flexible sections. The surface coating consists of sap harvested from the Thitsi tree (Gluta usitata), combined with natural mineral pigments like cinnabar for red and carbon for black.

Authentic pieces feature incised or etched decoration known as Hsaye-kan, where designs are scratched into the hardened lacquer and filled with coloured pigments layer by layer. Authentic period items display natural craquelure, age-appropriate surface wear to high-contact edges, and traditional pictorial motifs depicting folklore, flora, or astrology.

An octagonal lacquered table provides graphic pattern and warm tonal contrast alongside clean-lined upholstered seating. Placing the item as an accent piece in a minimalist or eclectic scheme allows its detailed surface iconography to stand out without competing with surrounding furnishings.

Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the lacquer from drying out or cracking. Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding commercial chemical polishes or water, which can dull the natural resin finish.
