A Georgian lacquered tray is an eighteenth or early nineteenth-century decorative serving vessel, typically made of papier-mache or metal, treated with layers of dark varnish and decorated with gilded hand-painted motifs.

These trays were crafted by pressing paper sheets soaked in glue into moulds, drying them under heat, and applying multiple coats of dark asphaltum varnish, which was then hand-gilded and polished.

Authentic pieces display subtle age-related craquelure in the varnish, unevenness from hand-applied lacquer, wear to the gilding along high-touch edges, and period-appropriate lightweight papier-mache or wrought metal bases.
