As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this rare and unusual Meiji Period (1868-1912) bronze Okimono of a standing giraffe, this majestic beast sculptured in fine detail by the prolific animalia caster of the late 19th century, Genryusai Seiya. The bronze itself has been very cleverley patinated in a dark shakudo alloy that has been etched back to create the natural appearance of a giraffes coat, its charming facial features captured in lifelike detail. Although known to exist, examples of Japanese bronze giraffe are very scarce and rarely seen on the market. The artists gilt signature seal is located to the underside of the body, a fascinating object that will make a unique addition to your Japanese metalwork or okimono collection.
