A Late Victorian Period Chippendale design mahogany desk by S & H Jewell of London. The rectangular top having an inset burgundy leather writing surface with blind and gilt tooling and finely carved floral moulded edge. Having an arrangement of nine rectangular mahogany lined drawers with ''sausage and pea'' applied mouldings and brass swan neck handles, retaining the original locks and working keys. The ends and reverse having finely carved floral roundels and further ''sausage and pea'' mouldings. Raised on solid mahogany bracket feet with inset brass castors. English circa 1900. Superb quality and condition
S and H Jewell were fine quality cabinet makers who were established in 1830. They were a family business who worked from their premises at Little Queen
Street, Holborn, in London and then later to Parker Street, London
