A superb George III / George IV Rosewood Library Writing Table, stamped Gillows of Lancaster to the front of the drawer. With an inset gilt tooled and embossed green-leather writing surface within a gadrooned border above a long mahogany lined drawer on baluster and turned supports with gadrooned Socles, sledge bases and scrolled feet with recessed castors. Structurally sound.

The “Gillows . Lancaster” struck mark is known to have been used on narrow drawer fronts (as with this example) between 1795 & 1825. See (Volume I) p.94-95, Susan E. Stuart “Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840”. Other examples of similar designs can be found in the same publication (Volume II) p.376 (plate GG69) & p.396 (plate GG27).
