A fine design from an exceptional silver maker, Hilliard and Thomason, this silver caddy spoon has a naturalistic twisted handle in the form of a trailing rose and a shell shape silver gilt bowel decorated with a floral motif. For an identical example, see ‘Caddy Spoons, An Illustrated Guide'' by John Norrie, plate 57f. In 1851, Hilliard and Thomason exhibited at The Grand International Exhibition in London.
