Antique Early Metalware 17thc Bronze Skillet Named On The Handle Clement Tosear. England / Wiltshire

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

I was so pleased to find this early bronze ''down hearth'' skillet....it is of a large size, standing on three bold legs....and the thing that really makes it, is the name of the maker cast into the handle CLEMANT TOSEAR, who had a foundry in Salisbury, Wiltshire....he died in 1695 and then his son Clement 11, took over the family business until his death in 1718....it was then continued by his son and brother....this fine skillet is also unusual as it has a small rebate in the top of the rim for a lid....not a feature very often seen in skillets of this period....the skillet is in very good condition with a fine natural patina.

English. C1679-95.
