The style suggests a Romantic or Dutch-inspired landscape, likely from the late 18th to early 19th century. The presence of figures, detailed cliffs, and ships in the distance could indicate a European school, possibly British or Dutch. The crackle pattern (craquelure) on the surface suggests authentic age, likely over 100 years old. It is painted on a wood panel, which was commonly used before canvas became dominant. This could indicate it is from the 1700s to early 1800s. The painting is in the style of Dutch Golden Age or Romantic landscape painters, similar to Claude Lorrain, Aelbert Cuyp, or even early J.M.W. Turner. However, identifying the artist without a signature or provenance is difficult. The frame is heavily carved with baroque/rococo floral motifs, likely gilded gesso on wood.
