A lovely silver chatelaine needle case with fluted decoration, screw-on cap and a silver chain made by Levi & Salaman and hallmarked for Chester, 1889. Levi and Salaman were the founding partners of the Potosi Silver Company in 1878, specialising in jewellery, novelties and souvenir spoons. The firm became Levi & Salaman Ltd in 1910, and it later merged into Barker Brothers Ltd in 1921.
The chatelaine needle case presents L & S, the Lion passant, the Chester assay mark, and date letter ''F'' for 1889.
