An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver chamber candlestick made by Robert Garrard II; an addition to our collection of Victorian silverware.
This exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver chamberstick has a plain circular form in the Georgian style.
The well is plain and unembellished, encompassed with a plain elevated rim bearing an applied moulded border.
The plain cylindrical capital is encompassed with an applied girdle and retains the original detachable hallmarked sconce.
The sconce is embellished with the contemporary engraved crest of out of a ducal coronet, an oak fructed and penetrated transversely in the main stem by a frame-saw, bearing the motto ''Through''*, in addition to a second coronet.
The chamberstick is fitted with a plain hand forged baluster-shaped handle with a bifurcating scrolling lower terminal.
The surface of the handle is embellished with further crests, identical to that of the sconce.
This Victorian silver chamber candlestick was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Garrard II, subsequently R & S Garrard & Co; this piece is a superior gauge of silver and the finest example of its type, as to be expected of this maker.
A Victorian silver chamber candlestick is a functional yet decorative antique, adding period charm to a home, study or bedside table. An ideal gift for antique enthusiasts, Victorian silver collectors or those passionate about historical décor; it embodies refinement and heritage.
* This crest pertains to the family name Hamilton.
