georgian tightly wrythenmoulded small glass tumbler - CATEGORY: ANTIQUE GLASS - DATED 18TH CENTURY

Georgian Tightly Wrythen-moulded Small Glass Tumbler

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The World is Made of Glass Ltd.

This is a small Georgian, wrythen-moulded tumbler or beaker dating from the mid to late 18th century, c1770, and probably used for port or similar heavy wine as the wrythening would have partially obscured the sediment.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the base consistent with some 250 years of use.

The glass has a bucket-shaped bowl measuring 5.7 cm (2.3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is tightly wrythen-moulded. The heavily kicked-in base which measures 4.2 cm (1.7 inches) in diameter carries a rough pontil mark. The glass is 7 cm (2.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

It weighs in at 75 g. (~ 2 1/2 oz.).
