An exceptionally good quality French 19th century Louis XV style free standing boulle side or games table by Maison Millet with inlaid engraved brass and red tortoise shell. The serpentine shaped table has an intricate scroll leaf design throughout, with ebonised detail and stands on square tapering cabriole legs. The table is adorned with beautiful bronze gilt ormolu mounts and moulds, and has impressive male masks to the front and rear.
The table has a swivel fold over top which reveals a baize surface with original leather and gilt border for gaming, and a polished mahogany compartment for storage.
The reverse of the mounts are stamped MB (Blaise Millet)
Maison Millet was established in Paris in 1857 by Blaise Millet and operated from the premises at 11 Rue Jacques-Coeur, before relocating to 23 Boulevard Beaumarchais. The firm specialised in fine quality bronzes, furniture and decorative objects and were an active client of Francoise Linke. The company won several awards in exhibitions for their work, including a gold at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle. In 1897, Blaise’s son Theodore joined the company and in 1902 Maison Millet were commissioned by the Palais de Versailles to replicate Marie-Antoinette’s celebrated Grand Cabinet a Bijoux.
