Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in the 16th and 17th centuries during the Tudor and Jacobean periods, a court cupboard is a tier-structured wooden storage cabinet used primarily in dining halls to display plate, silver, and serve food.

These cupboards were predominantly constructed from solid English oak using pegged mortise and tenon joinery, hand-planed panels, iron strap or butterfly hinges, and elaborate hand-carved decorative motifs such as guilloche and lozenges.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-hewn timber, heavy hand-forged iron hardware, bulbous cup-and-cover turned supports, relief-carved arches, and uneven wood shrinkage along with natural surface oxidisation.

Balance the visual weight and dark tones of carved oak by placing the cupboard against neutral lime-wash or plaster walls, pairing it with modern low-profile lighting, and displaying minimalist ceramic vessels on the surface.

Keep the wood free from direct heat sources and high humidity, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the protective patination.
