We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in British India during the nineteenth century, the planters chair was designed for rest on tropical plantations. Its distinctive flat armrests extended forward to allow users to elevate their legs, promoting circulation and cooling in warm climates.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from climate-resistant dense hardwoods, particularly teak or rosewood. Seating surfaces often featured woven cane for ventilation, though padded leather or heavy canvas were also utilized, secured with metal studs.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display hand-carved joinery, swivelling leg-rest arm extensions held by iron or brass pins, turned front legs, and a rich natural patination on the tropical timber.

A planters chair functions as an architectural accent piece in a study, library, or living space. Positioning it alongside contemporary neutral textiles or minimalist shelving allows its distinct silhouette and rich timber tone to stand out.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and leather desiccation. Nourish the hardwood using a natural beeswax polish and apply a dedicated leather conditioner to maintain the upholsterys flexibility.
