Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cremona, Italy, became the primary centre of European violin making during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries through master luthiers such as the Amati, Stradivari, and Guarneri families. Their arched body shapes, refined soundboard proportions, and specialised varnishes established the design standard for classical orchestral instruments.

Violins are traditionally constructed using carved spruce for the front soundboard, combined with maple for the back, ribs, and scroll. Dense ebony timber is utilised for the fingerboard, tuning pegs, and tailpiece to withstand mechanical wear from playing.

Nineteenth and early twentieth-century workshops produced millions of trade violins containing facsimile labels bearing famous Cremonese names such as Amatus or Stradivarius. Genuine period instruments display hand-carved tool marks, neck grafts from baroque conversions, distinct internal corner block geometry, and specific varnish oxidisation patterns.

Antique violins are frequently displayed resting open within a velvet-lined case on a sideboard, piano top, or bookshelf. Alternatively, they can be mounted securely on a wall bracket or placed inside a glazed shadow box as a decorative focal point.

Maintain a stable relative humidity between forty and fifty percent to prevent timber shrinkage and seam splitting. Always loosen the bow hair before storage, wipe accumulated rosin dust off the body using a dry microfibre cloth, and store the instrument away from direct heat sources.
